Scholarship Opportunity - SMART Scholarship

Scholarships ($25,000-$38,000) for Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics (STEM)

The Science, Mathematics And Research for Transformation (SMART) Scholarship for Service Program is an opportunity for students pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) disciplines to receive a full scholarship and be employed upon degree completion at a DoD research facility. We will be on campus promoting our scholarship program and would love to meet you!
Students pursuing degrees related to the following are encouraged to apply:
  • Biosciences
  • Chemistry
  • Computer & Information Sciences
  • Cognitive, Neural, and Behavioral Sciences
  •  Geosciences
  •  Materials Science and Engineering
  •  Mathematics
  • Oceanography
  • Physics
Scholarships awarded include a cash stipend of $25,000 to $38,000 a year, full tuition, required fees, health insurance contribution, and book allowance.  The SMART Program will allow individuals to acquire an education in exchange for a period of employment with the Department of Defense.
General Eligibility - ALL awardees must be:
  • a U.S. citizen at time of application
  • 18 years or older as of August 1, 2013
  • able to participate in summer internships at DoD laboratories
  • be in good standing with a minimum of cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
  • pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in one of the disciplines listed above
