Web Developer Job Overview:

Location: This position is located in Eugene, Oregon.
GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF THE POSITION
This position is for a grant-funded project serving educational institutions of the State of Oregon. The BI/Data Visualization Developer works as part of a team to build a Business Intelligence and Data Visualization System.  Responsibilities include migrating existing code systems and business processes from a legacy Oracle RDBMS to a new MSSQL system; design, programming, development, and testing of all parts of the system including but not limited to ETL, SSIS, RS, data visualization, web and application user interface; taking all necessary steps to ensure all parts of the System are functional, documented, and operating properly including but not limited to hardware, networking, security, and various parts of the Microsoft platform like SSIS, RS, SC, AS, MDM, IIS (or other web platform), etc.
MINIMUM (REQUIRED) QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelors of Computer Science or Engineering, or equivalent.
  • Three years of experience in programming, web development or Software Engineering at a progressively advanced level.
  • Demonstrated experience and success in projects comparable to the General Description of the Engagement.
SPECIAL (PREFERRED) QUALIFICATIONS
  • Advanced and demonstrated education, training, or experience in: Data Visualization and reporting; Web Applications and User Interfaces (UI); or Software Engineering (Agile a plus).
  • Experience in Higher Education, State Government or Federal Government.
  • Prior experience with Statewide Longitudinal Data Systems.
  • Experience maintaining confidentiality of data in test and production environments. This work includes direct access to FERPA protected data as well as other sensitive categories (PII, wages, etc.).

UO Libraries - Student Interactive Media Developer (Eugene, OR)

Student Interactive Media Developer position available beginning spring,
2013. May work over the summer if taking summer classes or begin work
before the end of Spring Term.

UO Libraries Interactive Media Group

The UO Libraries Interactive Media Group has an opening for a skilled
student developer with a background in web development/design and the
desire to create interactive media in a team environment.

Pay begins at $12.00/hr with a flexible work schedule of up to 20
hours/week during the academic year. Up to 40 during breaks/intersessions.
The number of hours will vary depending upon project workload, student
performance, course load and student availability.

Applicants must have good communication and interpersonal skills, must be
able to meet deadlines, and must work well under the direction of a
programming lead and within a team environment.

Position Description:
Under the leadership of Interactive Media staff, the student developer will
work to conceptualize, program and develop educational media to support UO
instruction and research. All work is done in cross-disciplinary project
teams under the supervision of full-time staff.

Required Skills:

Web programming/development experience required in HTML, JavaScript, CSS
and a server side language (PHP, ASP.NET, C#, etc.).  Candidate should have
ability to pick up new technologies quickly and to use problem-solving
skills to quickly diagnose and resolve issues. Preference will be given to
candidates with experience in PHP, jQuery, HTML5 and CSS3. Preference will
also be given to candidates with experience in Drupal or Wordpress.

Who We Are:

The Interactive Media Group of the UO Libraries promotes active learning
through the innovative use of technology. IMG offers free consulting,
instructional design, graphic design, and technology development services
for faculty and instructors who would like to develop interactive media for
use in UO CRN courses. We develop a range of educational technologies from
tutorials and animations to collaborative learning tools and interactive
websites.

Salary: Beginning at $12.00/hr

Starting: Spring, 2013. Can work over the summer if taking summer classes

POSITION SUMMARY: Applies expertise in programming to complex systems and programs. Analyzes needs, designs, writes and tests programs and applications. Converts project specifications and statements of problems and procedures to detailed logical flow charts for coding into computer language. Designs, develops and maintains software and data systems to store, locate, and retrieve specific documents, data, and information. Plans the full range of programming actions, produces products from numerous and diverse data elements from different sources.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

Develops, modifies and maintains complex programs; monitors the operation of assigned programs and responds to problems by diagnosing and correcting errors in logic and coding.

Works with internal and external customers to gather requirements; reviews requirements and needs for developing/modifying software, web and middle tier applications, reports and scripts.

Supports QA and deployment activities; carries out fact-finding and program analysis of problems; determines most appropriate procedures to resolve, troubleshoot and fix production defects.

Assists users and operating areas in implementing and supporting systems training related to newly developed/acquired software and software changes.

Critically reviews and effectively tests all programs prior to implementation to ensure software reliably meets system functional and performance requirements; verifies consistency and conformity with established department policies and practices as well as industry standard privacy and security guidelines.
Documents system/product functionality for business users and IT conforming to institutional standards.
Creates ad-hoc reports, data analysis and data corrections.
Researches & prototypes new technologies and provides recommendations for application improvement.

Works with software vendor(s), System Specialists, and outside government agencies to resolve system and application programming related issues.

Maintains confidentiality with regard to the information being processed, stored, or accessed.

Maintains and supports applications with minimal supervision.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Education:

AA Degree in Computer Science required.

BA Degree in Computer Science preferred.

Equivalent education/experience may substitute for degree.


Experience:

2+ year minimum with Microsoft SQL Server 2005/2008, MS SQL Server Stored Procedures.

Three years developing complex, cross-functional software in health care industry.

Technical documentation.

Business analysis, process design, and requirements gathering.

Source control systems such as SVN, CVS, or VSS.

Strong background in web tier and middle tier development with object-oriented programming.

ASP.Net/C#, including experience designing & implementing application architecture.
